New Experiences Winner

Artwork Title:

Second Chance

Description:

Second chance. The idea of this piece came from the concept of a collage but rescuing old objects.

About the artist:

As early I can recall in my life, I knew art was going to be a significant for me. I have vague memories of trying to copy great Renaissance masters on paper first, & with oil later. I painted my first piece of art of oil on canvas when I was 8 years. With my modest allowance bought the canvas, some oils, brushes & a magazine to teach me about oil painting. I could not buy all the colors, so I narrowed my choice to a few ones. The subject was a street of Paris with the Sacre Cour in the background. The piece is extrangely monochromatic with different tones; shadows are blue; sky is orange. Values, contrast & perspective are quite there. At choosing my professional career I became a Biologist (go figure) & then a PhD in Neuroscience. My first position involved the study of retina physiology what allowed me to understand the tricks used by the great masters to create depth, movement, etc,. I am still a Neuroscientist with my joy for art intact. Thanks to all for reading my bio.

"I am extremely thankful to all the people that voted for my work. Is just a simple piece done with old things, things we discard, things we forget. They say we are what we have experienced in our life and this piece was an attempt to rescue a little part of our past that makes our history the person we are now. I am so happy you enjoyed it as much as much. Thanks again, Leonardo Pignataro."
